Our topic this term is Intrepid Exploration. In English, we will be reading Shackleton's Journey and Ice Trap! These books tell the true story of Ernest Shackleton and his crew, who set out to cross the vast south polar continent, Antarctica.
In art, we will be learning about the British artist, Sarah Winkler. We will take inspiration from her artwork, and use salt to create our own frozen landscapes.
In geography, the children will take a closer look at where the countries of the world are located, and some of the ways geographers describe locations. Children will also learn to locate and describe places using longitude and latitude; find out about the Equator, the Hemispheres, the Poles and the Tropics and learn about time zones.
In science, the children will be learning about light. This will involve lots of hands-on experiments, including making periscopes - so please save your cereal boxes!
