Science Museum Trip
On Monday, Year 5 went to the Science Museum in London.
We learnt about Newton's Laws of Motion, watched "rockets" taking off using Hydrogen and Ethanol, went to the iMax to find out about the International Space Station (to help us with our writing this for the next week) and went to the Wonderland to take part in scientific tests and experiments.
The children were superb getting to and from London and in the museum. They learnt so much and enjoyed adding to their knowledge about space. Thank you so much to all the parent helpers who accompanied us.
In Science, we looked at ways to prove the Earth is spherical. We saw that when moving a model boat over the surface of the Earth, you see the hull or top of the boat first. If the Earth was flat, we would see the whole front of the boat.
Term One Information
Our topic this term is Stargazers. In English, we will look at different texts including Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator by Roald Dahl and The Way Back Home by Oliver Jeffers. The children will have the opportunity to write both descriptive pieces and factual, non-chronological texts.
Our science topic links closely to our topic as we look at Space. In our topic lessons, the children will focus on the space race. They will learn about the history of the space race, the countries involved and the first moon landing.
This term, we have P.E and Games on Tuesday and Thursday. Please have kits in school, fully named, ready for the lessons.
Thank you for your support.
