This week in phonics we have been learning new sounds. They have been a-e, i-e, o-e and u-e. We learnt that these are called 'split diagraphs', and we have enjoyed finding them in our reading books too!

In Art we have been making a winter tree scene. We started by putting a wash onto our paper, for our background, and then added some purple detail to the sky using wavy, zig zaggy and circular patterns. We then made collage trees to add to our background and completing our winter picture.

In PSHE we made a poster to teach other children what they should do if they feel unsafe. We used our learning to make this. We learnt that if we are feeling unsafe, we should speak to an adult we trust. This could be: parents, family, police, fire and rescue, paramedics and adults in school.

We have enjoyed Maths the most this week, we have been learning how to add and subtract using a number line and drawings!

This week we have continued our number bond learning. We learnt how to find them systematically, which means 'doing something in order'. We know that 9+1, 5+5, 2+8, 8+2, 3+7 and 0+10 are all numbers bonds of 10.

In English we have acted out the story of The Little Red Hen, using prosody to make our story telling more interesting! We have then made our own story maps to help us with our next piece of learning where we will be writing the story ourselves.

In Art we made autumn pictures using pencils and pastels. We linked this to our Science learning where we have been learning about the seasons and the weather. Today we are going to make our own rain catchers to track and record how much rain falls this term!

This week in English we have been writing about the Little Red Hen. We practiced writing some keywords from the story and we also wrote about our favourite character. Lots of us liked the cat the most! In phonics this week we have learn the following sounds: ‘ea’, ‘u’, ‘ue’, ‘ie’ and ‘ir’. We have used these sounds in our writing too!

In science we learnt about the seasons and the different weather associated with each. We sorted different pictures by season and enjoyed thinking about each picture and noticing clues to help us sort them!

We didn’t enjoy the heavy rain this week though!!
