For the first 2 weeks of this term, the school will be open to key worker children only. All other children will be provided with online/home learning.
Happy New Year!
Our topic this term is Intrepid Exploration. In English, we will be reading Shackleton's Journey and Ice Trap! These books tell the true story of Ernest Shackleton and his crew, who set out to cross the vast south polar continent, Antarctica.
In art, we will be learning about the British artist, Sarah Winkler. We will take inspiration from her artwork, and use a range of materials to create our own frozen landscapes.
In geography, the children will learn to locate and describe places using longitude and latitude; find out about the Equator, the Hemispheres, the Poles and the Tropics and learn about time zones.
In science, the children will be learning about light. This will involve lots of hands-on experiments, including making periscopes - so please save your cereal boxes!
We are linking the theme of exploring icy climates by creating dance and composing music inspired by Vivaldi's Four Seasons, as well as creating and editing films based on Shackleton's adventures.
The homework grid and weekly spellings are also on this page – so keep a look out so you’re up-to-date. Please continue to hear your child read at least five times a week and sign their Reading Record Book.
Thanks for your support.
