Learning for the Head, Heart and Hand

Wednesday 7th June 2023

We were so happy to be back in school this week! We have lots of mixed feelings about us starting our last term of Year 1! We are mostly very excited, happy and proud...but we do also feel a bit sad and nervous!

This week our playtime has been very different. We have started OPAL and have enjoyed the many areas that we can play in and venture out to. Some of our favourite areas include:

  • The quiet area. We like this area because it was nice and quiet, and we can play with lots of lovely dolls and do watercolour painting and drawing.

  • The cardboard box area. We like this area because we could go inside the boxes and make dolls' houses!

  • The trim trail. We liked this area because we like balancing and moving around it creatively.

  • The role play area. We liked this area because we got to dress up in lots of different outfits!

In Maths this week we have been learning to count up to 100. We have counted in 10’s and 1’s. We have used numicon, bead strings, deins and cuisenaire rods to represent different numbers up to 100.

In English we have been collecting different ideas of what we can see, smell, touch and hear in summer. We are going to use these ideas to write our own summer poems!

We are looking forward to the rest of the week, and hope there is lots of sunshine for playtimes!
