Lady Joanna Thornhill (Endowed) Primary School

Learning for the Head, Heart and Hand

Get Involved

Should you be interested in offering your services as a volunteer in school, please contact Mrs Swan via email at s.swan@ladyj.kent.sch.uk.  Mrs Swan will explain the order in which documentation and information should be submitted (as guidance has recently changed). An appointment will need to be made with Mrs Swan in order for the Enhanced DBS check to be submitted and verified.

All volunteers are required to complete the application form and agreement.  The Keeping Children Safe in Education document should also be read (Part one and Annexe B).

Volunteers will be asked to complete safeguarding and child protection training to keep everyone safe.   They will also need to agree to the Acceptable Use Policy.

We are very proud of the amazing community we have here at Lady Joanna Thornhill, parents and local residents who give up their time to enrich the learning experience for our wonderful pupils.

If you would like to support the school, there are a number of ways you can get involved.  You may be able to offer a regular amount of time each week, or perhaps only a few hours each term, we are grateful for any time you can spare.

  • Join the Friends' Association (click here to view their page).  You can help out at fundraising events, or perhaps take on a more specific role and be part of their amazing fundraising efforts.
  • Become a listening volunteer for our pupil reading sessions or a helper in school.
  • Help with school trips, sporting events or school events like cultural evening.
  • Help out with extra curricular school clubs.   It may be that you have a specific skill such as a language or sporting ability, or perhaps there is a club your child really wants to do.   We welcome our talented parents and carers to volunteer and run or assist with the running of a club.
  • Donating resources.   We are always grateful to received resources for OPAL, good condition second hand uniform, donations to our food and hygiene bank - or look out for requests in the weekly newsletter.  We are often asking parents if they have spare items such as plants, seeds or cardboard boxes!

For most volunteering roles you will be required to complete a volunteer form  and provide ID for an enhanced DBS check.  If you are interested in finding out more information please complete the form below.
