The School Day

THE SCHOOL DAY

Beginning & End of Day

The school gates open at 8:35am each day.  At the end of the day we open the Bridge Street gates at 3.15pm for EYFS and KS1 and the Village hall entrance at 3:20pm for KS2 pupils.

Punctuality

Please ensure that your child arrives at school on time.  Lessons begin at 8:45 and the main gates are closed at this time.  The Early Years teachers will be waiting at the Reception year gates, but anyone who arrives late must report to the school office to be marked in to the register.  Failure to do so may result in the pupil being marked as absent. Please do note that if your child arrives late after the registers have closed (9am) this will incur an unauthorised absence mark.  More importantly, if your child is late, they may miss an important part of their education with phonics sessions, which are held each morning.  It can also be very disruptive to other children who have already started their learning. We would also ask that parents collect their child promptly at the end of the school day at 3:15pm (EYFS & KS1) / 3:20pm (KS2).

Coming in to School

We always try to foster an ‘open door’ policy at Wye so that parents feel welcome into our school community and this promotes the vital liaison between home and school.  School gates are locked between 8:45am-3:15pm each day to keep our school secure, which ensures that we know exactly who is on our school site, with ‘strangers’ being appropriately challenged.  Should you need to access the school between 8:45a.m-3:15p.m., you can do so by pressing the buzzer at the gate next to the school field.  All visitors must sign in at the school reception and wear a printed ID badge.

We do not want to discourage dialogue between teachers and parents at arrival and home times.  These moments help to maintain the care of our boys and girls and build working relations.  However, we would ask that if a ‘meeting’ with a teacher is needed these are planned for the end of the day not the beginning and that wherever possible an appointment is made.

Changes to Pick up Arrangements

Please call the school if there are changes to your child’s pickup arrangements.  Please try to do this before 11.30am.  If the person collecting your child is not on your contact list, you will need to provide them with an agreed password to enable us to release the child to their care or email the school office (office@ladyj.kent.sch.uk) to add an extra contact.
