School Meals
Children may choose to have a school meal or bring in a packed lunch to school. All dinners are cooked fresh each day in our large kitchen by our caterer, Nourish. We serve over 1,200 dinners a week! Your child may have dinners all week or just on particular days. they just need to let their teacher know each morning during registration. You can see an up to date lunch menu on our school website at Lunch Information | Lady Joanna Thornhill Endowed Primary School.
Children in Year R-Y2 currently receive free school meals via the Universal Infant Free School Meals scheme (see below) and from Y3 the current price of a meal is £3.03 per day. Our kitchen staff can cater for allergies, intolerances and restrictions including gluten free. Kitchen staff will make the meals as similar to the standard main meal/vegetarian main meal as possible, so that children do not feel they are missing out. The kitchen is nut free and we try as much as possible to be a fully nut free school, so please do consider this if sending packed lunches or snacks in for your child.
Universal Infant Free School Meals From September 2014 the government implemented their “Universal Free School Meals” for all Infant children, this is not means tested. If your child would like to have a school meal whilst they are in Years R-2, there is no charge.
Free School Meals/Pupil Premium If you believe your child would be eligible for the standard means tested Free School Meals (open to pupils in all year groups), it is worthwhile applying even if your child is currently in receipt of Universal Infant Free school meals, as you may be also be eligible for further financial assistance for school trips, uniform, school holiday vouchers etc via Pupil Premium. If you have any queries please do not hesitate to talk to the School Office. Information and the application form can be found at https://www.gov.uk/apply-free-school-meals
