Happy New Year! We hope you all had a wonderful Christmas break. We are looking forward to starting back at school in 2026 and can't wait to see what the children can achieve this year!
We are really looking forward to our topics this term, which sees us begin our first History unit, with lots of other subjects linking to the Stone Age too.
English:
We will use a fiction and non-fiction text about the Stone Age. The children will take part in a range of drama activities before writing diary entries and instructions.
Maths:
The children will continue their work on multiplication and division this term before starting a new unit on length and perimeter.
Reading:
In VIPERS sessions, we will read the books: Stone Girl, Bone Girl and Mary Anning.
In the wider curriculum this term, we are studying:
History: Stone Age to Iron Age
Our study of pre-historic Britain will build on the children’s existing knowledge of events beyond living memory to further develop their understanding of chronology. Children will explore evidence to make deductions about life in the Stone Age and consider the changes into the Bronze and Iron Age.
Science: Our science learning is all about rocks, soils and fossils. We will be considering the work of Mary Anning in this area and will embed this through our reading.
Art: Exploring Stone Age art and experimenting with techniques and materials to create Stone Age inspired art, culminating in a new display which we are sure that the children will be proud to show off!
DT: Constructing an Iron Age hillfort.
PE: Basketball and swimming (see separate letter).
Music: Composing Using Your Imagination. This unit of work celebrates a wide range of musical styles and children will have the opportunity to listen and respond to music, sing, play, perform and compose original pieces.
Computing: Computing Systems and Networks
RE: What do different people believe about God?
