Vision
At Lady Joanna Thornhill Primary School, we value reading as a key life skill, and are dedicated to enabling our pupils to become keen, lifelong readers. We are dedicated to ensure we have a holistic approach to the teaching of reading that focuses on the enjoyment as well as the mechanics of reading.
Reading for the head:
Reading for the heart:
Reading for the hand:
By the time children finish Year Two, we want all children to be able to read, both for pleasure and for information. For those who are not fluent readers, intervention and additional targeted learning will be put in place so that children in Year Three develop as fluent readers. By the end of the child’s time at Lady Joanna, we want all children to be capable and proficient readers; they should be able to access a wide range of book types and genres and talk passionately about books.
