Lady Joanna Thornhill (Endowed) Primary School

Learning for the Head, Heart and Hand

Term 3

Happy New Year!

Welcome to our new term and our new topic: 'Ancient Maya!'

This term in science, the children will be learning about animals, including humans.  They will learn to identify and name the main parts of the human circulatory system, and explain the function of the heart, blood vessels and blood.  The children will recognise the impact of exercise, drugs and lifestyle on the way our bodies function. They'll be learning by making 'blood' smoothies and even a functioning heart using plastic bottles!

We are learning about a book called 'The Wedding Ghost' which is a take on the well-known story of 'Sleeping Beauty'. This dark, descriptive book will allow the children to really dig deep and develop their creative writing!

Our PE days are: Monday (hockey) and Friday (rugby). As we are outside, please may all of the children bring warm clothing as we will be playing in all weathers! If they have a gum shield and/or studded boots, they can wear those.
Please note that if your child does not have studded boots- they will be separate from those that do to avoid injury. Miss Dodsworth has said that the children will be in the mud getting the proper rugby experience. This may result in very muddy and wet clothing. please can all children bring in a change of socks and underwear just in case (they will be able to get changed in the toilets.)

As always, please check the website and Class Dojo regularly for updates.

Many thanks,

Miss Lee and Mrs Mitchell
