Learning for the Head, Heart and Hand

Term 3

Term 3

Firstly, we hope you have all enjoyed a very restful and relaxing Christmas break and are ready for an exciting term ahead!

Congratulations to those children who received star awards and unsung hero awards at the end of Term 2 - we are very proud of all your hard work. Take a look at the latest celebration newsletter for more details of our winners.

This term we will be exploring a range of new topics, including the wonders of Wye, animals, including humans (the human body) and embarking on observational line drawings in Art. We will be starting our first unit of Geography, exploring Wye and the local area. As part of this we have an exciting trip planned in conjunction with the Our Stour Project - more information to follow soon!

In English, we will get to grips with a new text: The Wedding Ghost by Leon Garfield. Writing pieces will include a recount, character description, flashback and the use of dialogue to advance the action in a story. We will continue to use drama activities to help children immerse themselves in the unit. We will also be linking in our reading this term, looking at twisted tales and revolting rhymes.

For our mathematics learning, we will be consolidating our learning on fractions, by looking at ratio and proportion. We will also be exploring algebra - a new topic for many! Practice most definitely aids with improvement in this area of mathematics, so the weekly home learning is a must.

For science, we will be learning all about the human body. Our focus will be the circulatory system; the different components and how they function.

Home learning books are to be brought to school every Tuesday so that homework can be checked and the new tasks can be given out. The homework grid for the term can be found in the first page of the book and is also available online in case it should get lost. Reading Records are to be brought into school every day this term please so that we can track our '5 Star Readers' and any reading completed in school can be added. Thank you in advance for your support with home learning and reading at home.

Finally, PE days this term are as follows: Monday and Thursday. We are doing Tag Rugby and Gymnastics this term and will be outside in all weathers so please consider this when sending in PE kit. Just a gentle reminder that PE kits should be in daily in case we have to make last minute changes to the timetable due to weather!

Thank you for your continued support. Please never hesitate to contact either of us via our emails should any questions ever arise.
