Headteacher Welcome

I am incredibly proud to be the Headteacher of Lady Joanna Thornhill (Endowed) Primary School.  We are a community school with amazing children, supported by committed staff and Governors, along with involved parents and a wider community which contributes to the work of the school.  This makes Lady Joanna a very special place.

At Lady Joanna we want an expansive education for the children and one which supports learning for The Head, Heart and Hand.  We want our children to think critically about the world and to make a difference to the world around them, developing curiosity, which is one of our school values.  We are a Rights Respecting School (Unicef) and the difference that this makes goes beyond the school gates, making a positive impact on the whole community, supporting another whole school value of compassion.

Learning for The Head, Heart and Hand needs to be supported by the characteristics of effective learning.  This means we want to provide opportunities for children to play and explore, to be active learners and creative and critical thinkers in order to build resilience; this is not just for the Early Years, but an important part of the learning experience for all children at Lady Joanna.

Our Primary School is lucky to work with nine other schools in the CARE Foundation Trust, and this provides a vibrant learning community, with many shared opportunities for development.  This learning fits well with one of our school values, which is collaboration.
