Learning for the Head, Heart and Hand

Year 4

Dear parents, here are some details about this term's teaching and topic areas that you might like to know.

Art - we will be exploring different printing techniques and comparing the works on Angela Harding and Hokusai who are both block printers.

RE - will be exploring ideas in Judaism and discussing how we decide what is right and wrong, according to different religious beliefs.

Rights - we will be sharing ideas about why Rights are important in protecting children across the world.

Science - in our Science week at the end of term we will be studying Sound as well as catching up on some learning from last year on animal teeth and bones.

Literacy - We will be sharing a whole class text, chosen for it's wonderful use of powerful language and inspiring storyline, as well as magical illustrations. Children will use the text to prompt discussions about character and setting as well as for writing setting descriptions and journal entries. I can't tell you the name of the book as it hasn't even been revealed to the children yet...!

History - we will be covering the fascinating topics of The Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age and then follow the timeline into a study of Roman Britain.

Maths - our topic this term is multiplication and division and the children will consolidate prior learning on using arrays, multiplication fact families and problem solving skills.

PE - indoor PE is 'Push and Pull' indoor gymnastics and outdoor is Tag Rugby.

We are also lucky to have some sessions of outdoor learning with Miss Dodsworth, which the children will really enjoy!
