Welcome back! We hope you all had a happy Easter holiday and are relaxed and ready to start term 5.
We are very much looking forward to taking the children out for a day trip to Reculver to study the coast line and explore the rock pools. We have lots of other exciting learning and investigating to do and will be busy growing our own crops in our Year 2 garden planter. Watch this space...
Please find below the curriculum areas we will be looking at throughout Term 5
English: We will be using the book George and the Dragon as a stimulus for our writing with a focus on using the key skills; apostrophes, onomatopoeia, rhetorical questions and adverbs.
Reading: In our reading practice sessions we will be continuing our Little Wandle reading using the Core or Fluency texts in Reading Groups and Little Wandle’s Year 2 Spelling units.
Maths: We will be beginning a new topic on capacity, mass and temperature before moving onto fractions where we will be looking at halves, quarters and thirds. We shall complete the topic by recognising the equivalence of a half and two quarters.
In the wider curriculum this term, we are studying:
Geography: What is it like to live by the coast? We will look at the UK seas and oceans before focusing on our local coastal areas and how they are used. We will be taking a trip to Reculver to collect data for our project.
Science: Plants. We will be planting seeds and bulbs and observing how they grow into mature plants, with the help of those at Kew Royal Botanic Gardens.
Art: Ceramics - Design and create a clay dragon.
RE: How can we learn from sacred books? Understand that sacred texts contain stories which are special to many people and should be treated with respect.
PE: Athletics and Target Games.
Music: Music that makes you dance.
French: Shapes. Learn the names of 10 shapes in French and recall numbers 1 to 5.
