Learning for the Head, Heart and Hand

Term 3

Happy New Year! We hope you all had a wonderful Christmas break. We are looking forward to starting back at school in 2026 and can't wait to see what the children can achieve this year!

Rabbit class are looking forward to welcoming you to their class assembly this term, we shall be hard at work learning our lines!

Please find below the curriculum areas we will be looking at throughout Term 3

English:

This term we will be looking at the text ‘Owl Babies’ this term. The children will explore the story using drama with a focus on feelings, before writing their own new and improved version of the story. After that, the children will have a go at writing an original story based on the text.

In Reading, we will be continuing Little Wandle, developing the children’s vocabulary, inference, prediction, explanation, retrieval and sequencing skills and the starting the ‘Bridge to Spelling’ unit.

Maths:

The children will be starting a new unit on shape. Any opportunities you can give your children to look at and identify 2D and 3D shapes would be incredibly helpful. We will then begin to look at money – so any opportunities for your children to play with money and practice using it would also be a huge benefit.

In the wider curriculum this term, we are studying:

Geography: Why is our world wonderful?

Science: Uses of everyday materials. The children will be exploring the properties of materials and considering what uses they have and why.

Art: Painting (looking at the work of Vincent Van Gogh, Tamara Phillips and Jean Duquoc).

DT: Mechanisms – Making a moving character.

RE: Who is a Muslim and what do they believe?

PE: Dance and gymnastics.

Music: Exploring feelings through music.

PSHE: Emotional well-being and friendship. The children will be encouraged to consider 'what is a good friend' and ways in which they can help a friend in positive ways.

Computing: Systems and Networks – Word Processing
