Learning for the Head, Heart and Hand

Art

Vision

Our curriculum in Art is perfectly expressed in the School values of the Head, Heart and Hand.  It equips the children pupils with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design; engaging, inspiring and challenging them.

The Art curriculum gives the children the opportunity to express their creativity through the whole school, with a detailed progression of skills in all areas of Art, experimenting with different medium and art forms.  They capture their ideas from their initial inception of ideas to the final piece of work in their sketch book, allowing them to develop their explorative learning.

The curriculum engages the children’s curiosity by exploring the work of a wide diversity of artists and crafts people from different background and periods of time.  We explore the impact the Artist’s work had on the world around them and how their circumstances affected the work they produced.  The children learn to work collaboratively on large scale works, allowing them to problem solve and work practically and also develop social skills, resilience and compassion whilst working with others.

Through reflection on our own work and that of other Artists, we develop our language and critical thinking skills, reflecting on the social, intellectual, emotional, cultural and environmental impact of art forms.   Art and design embody some of the highest forms of human creativity and at Lady Joanna we take great pride in our artistic achievements.
