Learning for the Head, Heart and Hand

Term 4

Welcome back from the February half term. We are looking forward to some fun and exciting learning opportunities which include keeping a close watch on the 10 caterpillars in Rabbit class. Our fingers are tightly crossed for we hope that at the end of term we will have some beautiful butterflies to release into the school garden. 

 

Squirrel class are looking forward to welcoming you to their class assembly this term.

 

Please find below the curriculum areas we will be looking at throughout Term 4

English:

We will be exploring alternative versions of fairy stories this term with our main text being ‘The Pea and the Princess’ by Mini Grey. We will be using this text as a stimulus for writing. We will be looking at other fairy stories told from different perspectives in our reading practice sessions and analysing them using VIPERS. We will be continuing Little Wandle reading using the Core or Fluency texts in Reading Groups and Little Wandle’s Year 2 Spelling units.

Maths:

We will be beginning a new unit on multiplying and dividing. After that we will be looking at measure and finding out how to measure length, height, mass, capacity and temperature using standard units.

 

In the wider curriculum this term, we are studying:

History: Explorers. We will look at ‘What an Explorer is’, Christopher Columbus and Matthew Henson’s explorations and the significance of the Apollo 11 mission. 

Science: Animals Including Humans – How animals and humans change with age and what animals need to survive and why humans exercise.

Art/DT: Sewing finger puppets. We shall be practising our running stitch and designing skills.

RE: What is a Mosque, how and why do Muslims pray and what stories do Muslims love to tell.

PE: Gymnastics and Invasion Games.

Music: Recognising different sounds.

French: Les Saisons (Seasons)- Learn what happens in each Season and state which is a favourite.

PSHE /Rights: Careers, financial capability and economic wellbeing. Article 22: The rights of refugee children – Understanding the work of Save The Children.

Computing: Exploring a new application, creating an animation and to follow an algorithm before planning and use code to create our own algorithm.
