Learning for the Head, Heart and Hand

Term 3

We hope you have had a restful Christmas break and are excited about the term ahead.

Reading and Writing: This term, our reading and writing lessons are based around the book, Floodland by Marcus Sedgwick. In this dystopian tale, Zoe searches for her missing parents and leans what she is capable of in order to survive. By fully immersing themselves in the text, children have the opportunity to analyse and discuss the story and create fully developed writing as a result.

The children will also learn about Anglo-Saxon society and we will be having an Anglo-Saxon day (on Wednesday 4th February) during which they will try their hand at a variety of Anglo-Saxon crafts and even cook and eat some delicious food.

Your child needs to bring their named water bottle daily as well as a healthy snack. Please hear your child read daily for at least 20 minutes and ensure that times-tables are being practiced regularly – all facts of all tables should be secure for children in Year 5.
