We hope you have had a restful break and are excited about the term ahead! This is what we will be learning about in each subject this term:
Writing:
This term our writing lessons will be based around Alfred Noyes’ ‘The Highwayman’. The children will begin by exploring the historical context in which the text is set and give a presentation to their peers about what highwaymen were. Over the course of the term, they will create a range of narrative writing, including descriptive writing before writing their own ‘twist’ ending to the original poem.
Readings:
The children will continue to develop their VIPERS skills through studying the non-fiction text, ‘The Incredible Ecosystems of Planet Earth’ as well as ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’, which has proved to be favourite with Year 5 children each year.
Maths:
The children will be consolidating their understanding of fractions, decimals and percentages before moving on to area and perimeter and statistics.
Science:
We will be continuing our Materials topic, comparing and grouping every day material, looking at thermal conductors, insulators as well as materials that dissolving in solutions.
History:
We will continue to learn about the Anglo-Saxons and begin learning about the Viking including: where they came from, why they came to England, how they travelled and what beliefs they held. We will also find out about the devastating attack on Lindisfarne
Music:
In music this term, the children will be exploring musical styles and trying to answer the question:
How does Music teach us about our community?
PSHE:
This term the children will be learning about standards of living -linking this to money- focusing on managing money and earning money.
Computing:
The children will be learning about physical computing. They will create programs using MakeCode and upload these programs onto a Micro:bit.
Art:
We will be exploring Viking art and using the technique of printing to create a final piece.
DT:
We will be learning about structures and bridges. This will be taught in one DT Day.
RE:
Green Religion – We shall be looking at caring for our planet through the eyes of different religions.
French:
The children will learn all about different habitats and what plants and animals live there, culminating in delivering a presentation en français! This will be taught in one French Day.
PE:
Year 5 are lucky to have an additional hour of PE this term. PE will be:
