Learning for the Head, Heart and Hand

Term 4

Welcome back from February half term. We are now over halfway through the year in Year 3. This term we have lots of exciting new topics for the children to learn.

In Writing, our key text will be Voices in the Park by Anthony Browne. This is an excellent picture book looking at different perspectives. Four people enter a park, and through their eyes we see four different visions. There's the bossy woman, the sad man, the lonely boy, and the young girl whose warmth touches those she meets. We will be creating descriptive writing as well as writing from the different characters' viewpoints.

In Maths this term, the children will be building on their Year 2 fraction work as well as learning about mass and capacity.

Through our VIPERS Reading lessons, we will be studying different types of poems: haikus, kennings and calligrams. Our non-fiction text this term will be MEGA - The Most Enormous Animals Ever by Gavin Scott and Jules Howard. We will be considering how non-fiction texts are set out, using our retrieval skills and summarising different parts of the text.

In the wider curriculum this term, we are studying:
